Nacre

Nacre (nā"kẽr) , noun

[French, compare Sp. nácara, nácar, Italian nacchera, naccaro, Late Latin nacara, nacrum; of Oriental origin, compare Arabic nakīr hollowed.]

(Zoology) A pearly substance which lines the interior of many shells, and is most perfect in the mother-of-pearl.

Nacré (nȧ*krā") , adjective

[F. See Nacre.]

(Art) Having the peculiar iridescence of nacre, or mother-of-pearl, or an iridescence resembling it; as, nacré ware.
