Vermiculite , noun
[Latin vermiculus, dim. of vermis worm.]
(Mineralogy) A group of minerals having, a micaceous structure. They are hydrous silicates, derived generally from the alteration of some kind of mica. So called because the scales, when heated, open out into wormlike forms.
