The act, art, or practice of vaccinating, or inoculating with the cowpox, in order to prevent or mitigate an attack of smallpox. Compare Inoculation.

In recent use, vaccination sometimes includes inoculation with any virus as a preventive measure; as, vaccination against cholera.

Any inoculation intended to raise immunity to a disease.
