Porifera , noun, plural

[New Latin, from Latin porus pore + ferre to bear.]

(Zoology) A grand division of the Invertebrata, including the sponges; -- called also Spongia, Spongida, and Spongiozoa. The principal divisions are Calcispongia, Keratosa or Fibrospongia, and Silicea.
