[New Latin lagophtalmia, from Greek lagw`s hare + 'ofqalmo`s eye; -- so called from the notion that a hare sleeps with his eyes open.]

(Medicine) A morbid condition in which the eye stands wide open, giving a peculiar staring appearance.
