Gimlet , noun

[Old French guimbelet, guibelet, French gibelet, prob. from OD. wimpel, weme, a bore, wemelen to bore, to wimble. See Wimble, n.]

A small tool for boring holes. It has a leading screw, a grooved body, and a cross handle.
