Finch

Finch (finch) , noun

[Anglo-Saxon finc; akin to Dutch vink, Old High German fincho, German fink; compare Welsh pinc a finch; also English spink.]

(Zoology) A small singing bird of many genera and species, belonging to the family Fringillida.

The word is often used in composition, as in chaffinch, goldfinch, grassfinch, pinefinch, etc.
