Decamp , intransitive verb

[French décamper; pref. dé- (Latin dis) + camp camp. See Camp.]

To break up a camp; to move away from a camping ground, usually by night or secretly. — Macaulay

Hence, to depart suddenly; to run away; -- generally used disparagingly.
