[New Latin; Greek 'an priv. + oxygen + Greek a'i^ma blood.]

(Medicine) A former term used to refer to an abnormal condition due to deficient oxygenation of the arterial blood, as in balloon sickness, mountain sickness; now the term is replaced by the term hypoxemia.
